Keys to Aging Management – Introduction

Managing the aging process is important for health, quality of life,
and physical appearance. As we age, our bodies undergo several changes
that have adverse effects on our body. Our tissues degrade and
degenerate as we accumulate toxins, sun damage, and more. Through
Traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, Diet, Life style, and nutritional therapies it is
possible to manage the aging process.

Not everyone is as healthy as they think they are. It is very rare to
find an individual that is in perfect health, has perfect balance, and
does not have excess toxin build up in their bodies. As we age, our
body’s undergo changes in the organ systems, changes to our posture,
accumulate toxins from our environment, and accumulate damage to the
skin from the Sun’s UV rays. It is possible to manage this complex
aging process with herbs, professional supplements, dietary changes,
lifestyle changes, regular massages, reduction in stress, regular
acupuncture treatments, and maintaining a healthy emotional wellbeing.

In the coming months I will be posting short articles on how to manage
your bodies aging process, what you can do to maintain a youthful
appearance, and how to improve your quality of life.

How to get your daily Vitamin D.
Vitamin D is an important vitamin that our body needs for it’s daily functions. One of the easiest ways for our bodies to obtain vitamin D is via the sun’s rays. The sun produces both UVA and UVB rays, it is the UVB rays that form vitamin D in the skin, while UVA rays break down vitamin D, causes aging of the skin, and can be cancerous. The proper amount of UVB rays for vitamin D production is when the sun’s angle is 50% or more, as the short UVB rays cannot penetrate the atmosphere. A good website to find the sun’s angle at a specific time of day and season is here: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/AltAz.php . It is also a good idea to not attempt to gain vitamin D from the sun through a glass window or clouds, as the UVB rays cannot properly pass through the glass or clouds, while UVA rays that are longer in wave length can easily pass through the glass or clouds. Vitamin D is a necessary vitamin for the body, so check the sun’s angle and catch some rays for your daily vitamin D.
Some additional tips:

Get the most vitamin D out of exposure to the sun by avoiding washing the skin with soap for 2 days. It is hypothesized that the sebum in the skin contains a large part of the vitamin D formed in the skin.

Protect the skin from the damaging effects UVA radiation by taking astaxanthin, broccoli seed extract, Vitamin C, and drink plenty of water.

If you cannot get vitamin D from the sun, take by mouth practitioner grade vitamin D or slather on practitioner grade vitamin D cream (don’t wash it off for 48 hours). Topical vitamin D is also wonderful for speeding the healing of already closed wounds (however, never apply non-sterile Vitamin D to open wounds) .

In 2010, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act, a health
insurance reform law intended to ensure access to quality and
affordable health insurance for all Americans. Starting in 2014, most
health plans will be required to offer a comprehensive package of
items and services to patients, known as “essential health benefits”
(EHB). Under the new law, EHB must cover certain specific services
including emergency services, maternity and newborn care, prescription
drugs as well as preventive and wellness services, among others.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is currently
accepting input regarding their approach to establishing EHBs. A
strong public show of support for acupuncture as an essential health
benefit will be noticed by policymakers and may lay a solid foundation
for future federal acupuncture services recognition.

To allow everyone access to this effective medicine, we need your help
by signing the petition indicated in the link below.

http://aaaom.rallycongress.com/5887/acupuncture-as-an-essential-health-benefit-public-input/?m=2562184

Please send it to all of your friends and family. We need to have
acupuncture available to everyone!

Thank you for signing the petition and spreading the word!

Our acupuncture clinic treats fertility issues in both men and women.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have a long history of benefiting fertility in many ways.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be used alone or in conjunction with Western medicine. A 2002 German study found significantly higher conception rates (42.5% vs. 26.3%) when acupuncture was used with IVF. More recently, two studies published in May 2006, showed that acupuncture can improve IVF success rates. First, in Germany, 225 women undergoing in vitro fertilization participated in a study. Of these, 116 patients received luteal phase (the phase after ovulation) acupuncture according to the principles of TCM and 109 people received a standard protocol of acupuncture. The treatment group using TCM principles had a significantly higher clinical pregnancy rate than the placebo group (33.6% vs. 15.6% respectively). Second, a Denmark study published at the same time examined the effect of acupuncture received on the day of embryo transfer vs. no acupuncture, and they also found a significant increase in pregnancy rates (39% vs. 26%). The researchers concluded that acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer improved the outcome of IVF. A third study published at the same time found the results too small to be considered clinically significant but these researchers also concluded that acupuncture was safe for women undergoing IVF.

Studies have found that regular treatments significantly improve sperm counts and motility (the strength with which the sperm swim). In a study published in Fertility and Sterility in 2005, researchers analyzed sperm samples from men with infertility of unknown cause before and after acupuncture treatments. They found that acupuncture was associated with fewer structural defects in sperm and an increase in the number of normal sperm.

The best time to begin preparing your body for a baby is at least three months prior to conception or an IVF cycle. While that is the time to begin acupuncture treatments, we understand that most couples wait until they are actively trying to conceive. It is recommended to received at least twice weekly treatments until a positive pregnancy test is obtained, and once a week for the first trimester to reduce the risk of miscarriage. Studies with the greatest success rates included a minimum of 9 treatments. We suggest a minimum of 12 treatments (possibly more if patient was on birth-control prior) .

Benefits for women:

Improves uterine lining

Increases blood flow to the uterus

Regulation of hormones

Reduction of stress associated with fertility issues

Improved function of ovaries

Increased conception with/without ART

Increased live birth rates

Decreased rates of ectopic pregnancies

For men:

Improvement in semen quality and quantity

Reduction of stress and improve well being
